I have a 1994 chrysler new yorker with 102K and automatic transmission. In drive all of the shifting works well. In reverse gear, however, the car will roll back, but when I aply the gas, nothing happens, the engine just revs up.
What do you thing the problem could be?

This could be a slack in your shift linkage, making your transmission go into neutral instead of reverse. If that is the case, any mechanic can fix this in a matter of minutes. Worst case senario: Reverse gear synchronizers are out inside the transmission. This is a common occurrance with that year range front wheel drive chrysler and dodge vehicles.

    The trans is bad

I am by no means a professional, but I have always heard that when reverse starts to go out it a sign your transmission is going out. Best of luck

sounds like your transmission is going out which means that needs to be taken to a transmission shop to be worked on. getting the transmission worked on is not a drop in the bucket and be prepared to drop some serious money just to get the transmission worked on.

this actually had happened to me twice on the same car in just over a year and warranty had just expired but the trans. shop had went ahead and did the repairs as warranty.

In actuality, it may be the fact that it’s stuck in forward gears and that it can’t actually get in to reverse. Happened to me and $1600 dollars later car runs great!
