I recently looked at a new Chrysler Sebring, and the dealer told me that the warranty was 3/36, thats it. I checked and everybody else has better warranties, even pathetic GM now has 5/100k powertrain warranty. No wonder Chrysler sales are in the toilet.

Because they have the poorest car in the industry.

    Ok, not entirely true.

You want the real reason? Because for quite some time, Chrysler was on the ropes and barely hanging on for dear life. During those years, the dealers were trying to remain in business and as profitable as they could be.

The Chrysler dealerships explored a whole cadre of ways to rip the consumer and ream the manufacturer on warranty claims to maintain a bank account sufficient to stay afloat.

When the company became profitable again, they didn’t just set all these new found ways of buck production aside, and the manufacturer knows what’s going on.

So the manufacturer offers the minimum warranty they can knowing that they’re going to get reamed for the shortest time they can by the unscrupulous dealer network.

because not many people buy chrysler and dont have enough money to give good warrenty

My Dodge truck has 7/100k powertrain….

It just depends on what they are offering at the moment. Look at the base cost of the car + an extended warranty.

Chrysler was just purchased and it is going through re-organization, so they are not advertising on TV or having any incentives right now…. they are not doing much of anything at the moment now that I think about it…

Actually that is a standard warranty for the major American can makers. the 5/100k warranty is a “option” meaning that if you take it, you do not get the bumper to bumper warrant of the 3/36. The 5/100k does not give you full bumper to bumper coverage, only powertrain coverage usually.

So it is not a poorer option, just a different one with its pro’s and con’s just like the 3/36k

The Sebring has had a bad reputation since it was introduced.
I have a Dodge Stratus and I love it. If the car is well-built, you don’t need a fancy warranty.

    It’s a market thing.

If you’ve ever shopped for a new house, you’ll see lots of model homes, and say wow, the house costs $250,000 and is so much nicer than the used one for $250,000, but then you start looking at the feature and upgrade sheet. Paved driveway: $2000, soaker tub $2,000. Backsplash: $500, island counter for kitchen: +++ but they got you thinking with the sticker price.

    Chrysler is doing similar:

Compare the Sebring to those in the sector that they are trying to compete in:

Mid-sized sedan starting prices from MSN Auto:

    Hyundai Sonata: $22,295
    Chrysler Sebring: $22,995
    Ford Fusion: $23,499
    Nissan Altima: $24,398
    Honda Accord: $24,800
    Chevrolet Impala: $25,230
    Toyota Camry: $25,900
    Mazda Mazda6: $26,395

Aside from the Hyundai, which I do believe has the best warranty, the Sebring under-cuts everyone and significantly.

Chrysler’s thing is a low up-front price, and obviously there are strings attached in the long term, but who plans for the long term these days, with so many new car owners, car loans out-living the cars themselves.

Chrysler’s going downhill. The reason for its poor warranty is that the company has no faith in any of its models. It knows that if it ups its warranty it wont be able to handle the many upset customers and the unreliability of their Chrysler vehicles.

Chrysler’s parts and poor design are the reason it offers such a poor warranty.

Chrysler group is still trying to get rid of their unusually large MAJOR backstock of untouched 2006 models, they probably can’t sale the older makes to provide better warranties for the new stocks.

    that’s my .02 cents
